The transmission performance of lead screw rod is closely related to the material of nut. There are significant differences in strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, lubrication requirements and other aspects of different materials, which directly determine its application scenarios.

1. METALS

1.1. Bronze

Material characteristics: Copper tin alloy has excellent friction reduction and thermal conductivity, moderate surface hardness (HB 180-220), small wear when combined with steel screw rod, even if insufficient lubrication, can maintain transmission function for a short time, avoid jamming failure.

Application scenarios: Suitable for precision transmission applications with medium-low speeds and moderate loads, such as machine tool feed mechanisms, printing equipment roller adjustments, and textile machinery roller drives. Its excellent anti-engagement performance makes it particularly suitable for frequent start-stop operations or low-speed reciprocating motions.

Note: Grease should be replenished regularly to prolong the service life. It is not suitable for strong corrosive environment or food grade application.

1.2. Brass

Material characteristics: Excellent wear resistance, low friction coefficient, better self-lubrication than cast iron, and less likely to engage with the screw rod; corrosion-resistant (in freshwater environment), good processing performance; however, its bearing capacity is lower than that of metal hard materials, and the cost is higher than cast iron.

Application scenarios: For medium-speed and medium-load transmission scenarios, such as precision hand-cranked screw rod mechanisms, small CNC equipment feed axes, and valve opening and closing devices.

Precautions: High requirements for noise control, or for light-load equipment that cannot be lubricated frequently.

2. Engineering plastics: POM

Material features: Low density, low friction coefficient, good fatigue resistance, and a maximum temperature tolerance of 90°C. Some models have built-in stainless steel inserts to enhance connection strength, which can be fastened by flat, groove, or thread.

Application scenarios: Suitable for quiet transmission scenarios with light load and medium-low speed, such as printer paper feed mechanism, automatic coffee machine brewing unit, and 3D printer platform drive.

Note: Regular lubrication is required to prevent accelerated wear and tear. It is not suitable for high temperature or strong chemical medium environment.
