The application of brass and bronze in trapezoidal screw rod and nut has significant differences. The main differences between them are as follows:
1. Different components
Brass: Main components are copper and zinc. The zinc content usually ranges from 5% to 45%. Some special brasses may contain small amounts of elements such as lead and aluminum.
Bronze: Based on copper, the main alloying elements are tin, aluminum, silicon, etc. For example, tin bronze contains tin at a rate of about 3% to 14%, and aluminum bronze contains aluminum at a rate of 6% to 12%.
2. Performance feature
Brass: It has high strength and hardness, good wear resistance, excellent processing performance, but relatively weak corrosion resistance (it is prone to "zinc loss corrosion").
Bronze: It has higher hardness, stronger wear resistance, and better corrosion resistance than bronze, especially performing outstandingly in harsh environments such as seawater. It has good casting performance and is suitable for precision castings.
3. Color and appearance
Brass: Its color is golden yellow or light yellow, and the surface has a high luster.
Bronze: Its color is mostly bluish gray or dark yellow. After oxidation, a unique greenish oxide layer will form on the surface.
4. Application scenarios
Brass: It is commonly used in situations where processing performance and cost are of high importance, such as ordinary mechanical parts, decorative items, musical instruments, etc.
Bronze: It is more suitable for working conditions with high load, high wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, such as ship fittings, bearings, gears, sculptures, etc.
Summary: If the trapezoidal screw and nut need to balance both processing convenience and certain strength, bronze is an economical and practical choice; if high wear resistance and corrosion resistance are required, especially for use in humid or corrosive environments, bronze is more appropriate.
