For double-nut ball screws, two nuts are used to achieve the relative axial displacement of the two ball nuts, and the balls of the two ball nuts are respectively connected to the two opposite sides of the threaded rollers to eliminate the clearance. When eliminating the axial clearance in advance using this method, it is important not to apply excessive preload. Otherwise, the no-load torque will increase and the transmission efficiency will decrease.
It can be lubricated with grease and oil. Grease is usually added to the space between the threaded rollers and the housing, while oil is added through the oil holes on the housing to the space where the mounting nuts are installed. The grease for ball screw types should be replaced every six months. Clean the old grease of the ball screw type and apply new grease. The ball screw type lubricated with oil can be oiled once before the operation of each machine tool.
Ball screws should be protected from dust or debris and closed (such as spiral spring steel band sleeves, tension sleeves or folding sleeves, etc.). During operation, avoid hitting the protective device. If the protective device is damaged, it should be replaced in time.
The material selection of ball screws is directly related to their service life. High-quality materials can enhance the wear resistance and fatigue resistance of ball screws, thereby extending their service life. For instance, choosing materials with high hardness and strength can increase the fatigue resistance of the screw shaft, while selecting materials with high precision and wear resistance can reduce the friction and wear between the balls and the raceways.
Excessive load can cause excessive stress and deformation in the ball screw, thereby accelerating failure. Therefore, when using a ball screw, it is necessary to select the appropriate screw specification and type according to the load requirements, and avoid sudden load changes and impact loads to extend the service life.
The factors such as temperature, humidity and dust in the working environment may all cause damage to the ball screw. For instance, a high-temperature environment will deteriorate the material properties, leading to increased wear; a high-humidity environment is prone to rusting of the ball screw; and impurities like dust and metal debris entering the raceway will increase wear. Therefore, appropriate protective measures suitable for the environment need to be selected based on specific circumstances.
Regularly inspect the lubrication status, tightening condition and working effect of the ball screw, and promptly clean and replace the damaged parts. This can prevent potential problems from occurring and thereby extend the service life.
In conclusion, through the aforementioned methods, the service life of the ball screw can be effectively prolonged.
