How to install and maintain a coating rod?

Mayer rod can be used in ink, paint, cream, viscose and other applications. Use transparent tubing to protect the coating rod, which is made of high-quality, wear-resistant stainless steel with a smooth surface finish that ensures long-lasting durability. The extrusion process prevents thread breakage and makes it easy to clean, allowing for repeated use.

Attention should be paid: Coating rods of different thicknesses have different pattern sizes. Therefore, the specifications chosen are also different.

Here is the process of Mayer rod handle and Mayer rod assembly:

1. Assemble the handle and bracket with M4 * 6 hex socket screws.

2. Place the Mayer rod on the platform with the marking surface facing upwards.

3. Use a bracket to hold the Mayer rod, and fasten both ends with M4 * 10 screws.

The maintenance methods for Mayer rod mainly include daily maintenance, deep cleaning, component inspection, and lubrication maintenance.

1. Daily Maintenance

1.1 Cleaning Residual Paint: After use, immediately clean any leftover paint from the wire rod to prevent it from drying and making cleaning more difficult, which could even damage the wire rod. Use non-woven cloth or a soft brush with a specific solvent (water-based paint with clean water or ethanol, oil-based paint with acetone or a dedicated cleaner) to wipe the surface of the wire rod. Be cautious of the solvent's corrosiveness; nylon wire rods should avoid strong acid or alkali solvents.

1.2 Storage Environment: The storage environment must be dry and well-ventilated. Humidity above 60% can cause metal parts to rust, especially stainless steel wire rods may suffer from pitting in chlorinated environments. Before long-term storage, apply anti-rust oil, wrap with anti-rust paper, and place in a sealed bag. Avoid stacking or colliding with other tools. It is recommended to use a dedicated bracket to hang vertically to reduce the risk of bending the wire rod.

2. Deep cleaning

Ultrasonic cleaning: Perform a deep clean once a month by placing the wire rod in an ultrasonic cleaner. Add 60°C pure water and a neutral cleaner. The recommended ultrasonic frequency is 28-40kHz, and the cleaning time should not exceed 15 minutes. After cleaning, immediately dry with compressed air, focusing on the pores. When reassembling, check the O-ring's elasticity; replace it if it shows signs of hardening or cracking.‌

3.Component inspection

Thread integrity: Regularly check the thread integrity by observing the surface of the rod with a magnifying glass for scratches or indentations, and ensuring uniform thread spacing. Place the rod flat on an optical plate and observe if it rolls smoothly without jumping; if there is resistance, it may indicate deformation. Measure the rod's diameter tolerance; if it exceeds ±0.01mm, it needs to be sent back to the factory for calibration. Pay special attention to the joint area, which is prone to wear due to concentrated force. Use a micrometer to measure critical dimensions every three months and record the data, establishing a maintenance log for the equipment.

4.Lubrication Maintenance

4.1 Metal rods: After every 50 hours of use, apply high-temperature grease (such as molybdenum disulfide grease) to the bearings. Before adding the new grease, remove old grease to prevent impurities from mixing in. After lubrication, let the rod idle for 2-3 minutes to ensure even distribution of the lubricant.

4.2 Plastic rods: Use silicone-based lubricants and avoid contact with the coated working surfaces. Do not use rust-preventive lubricants like WD-40, as these products can attract dust and create an abrasive paste effect, accelerating wear on components.
