How To Maintain Planetary Roller Screw?

Planetary Roller Screw, as a precision transmission component, its maintenance directly affects the equipment's operational accuracy, service life, and failure rate. The core of maintenance lies in "cleaning, lubrication, protection, inspection" and "standard operation". The specific maintenance guidelines are as follows:

1. Cleaning and Dust Prevention (Preventing foreign matter from entering)

1.1. Daily cleaning: Regularly use soft brushes or non-woven fabric to clean the surface of the screw, the nuts, and the rollers of dust, chips, and old oil stains. Avoid impurities from entering the thread groove and causing wear or jamming. When cleaning, do not use strong corrosive solvents to avoid damaging the surface.

1.2. Sealing and Protection: Ensure that the equipment is equipped with complete dust covers, sealing end caps or protective covers to prevent dust, water mist, etc. from entering the interior. If the protective device is damaged, it should be replaced in time to avoid "operating with a faulty machine".

2. Lubrication Management (Reducing friction and wear)

2.1. Lubricant selection: Preferentially use dedicated lithium-based lubricating grease (such as No. 2 lithium-based grease) or the lubricating grease specified by the manufacturer to ensure the grease is clean and free of impurities. Avoid mixing different oils to cause oil sludge accumulation.

2.2. Lubrication cycle: After the new screw undergoes running-in, it needs to be replenished with lubricating grease in time; in normal working conditions, it is recommended to check and replenish lubricating grease every 500 hours or every 3-6 months; in high-load, high-frequency operation or harsh environments (such as high temperature, dusty), the lubrication cycle should be shortened.

2.3. Lubrication method: Clean the injection port after cleaning and slowly inject, ensuring that the lubricating grease evenly covers the thread groove and contact surfaces, avoiding dry friction.

3. Condition Inspection and Precision Calibration (Preventive Maintenance)

3.1. Clearance and Pre-tightening Force Inspection: Regularly check the axial clearance (jitter) and return clearance of the screw. If the clearance is too large (such as axial jitter exceeding 0.01mm, return clearance exceeding 0.05mm), it is necessary to re-adjust the pre-tightening force or replace the worn components to restore the transmission accuracy.

3.2. Bearing and Connection Component Inspection: Regularly check the wear of the supporting bearings, the lubrication status, and the tightening condition of the connecting bolts. If there is looseness or abnormal wear, it should be tightened or replaced in time.

3.3. Operation Status Monitoring: Pay attention to abnormal noises, temperature rise, and movement stability during equipment operation. If abnormal noise, excessive temperature rise (beyond the normal range), or movement jamming occurs, stop the machine immediately for troubleshooting to avoid the expansion of the fault.

4. Standard Operation and Reasonable Load (Source Protection)

4.1. Avoid Overload and Impact: Do not allow the equipment to operate under long-term overload, make sudden stops at high speed, or frequently reverse direction. Avoid rapid acceleration of the screw rod causing wear or structural deformation.

4.2. Standard Startup and Shutdown: Before starting the equipment, it is recommended to run at low speed for 3-5 minutes to ensure the lubricating grease is fully distributed and preheated, avoiding cold start causing metal fatigue.

4.3. Avoid External Force Damage: Do not strike the screw rod, nut, or force the return to prevent the precise components from deforming due to external force impact.

5. Long-term Storage and Sealing Maintenance

If the equipment is to be stored for a long time, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the surface and apply anti-rust oil, regularly rotate the drive shaft to lubricate the internal components, and store the equipment in a dry and ventilated place to prevent rust caused by natural weathering.
