PEEK is superior to PPS in strength,toughness and maximum operating temperature.In the aspect of high temperature resistance,PEEK is about 50°C higher than PPS.On the other hand,PPS's relatively obvious cost advantage and better processing performance make it more widely used.
●PPS has the following performance advantages:
(1) intrinsic flame retardants
PPS pure resin and its fiberglass/mineral powder filled composites can easily achieve flame resistance or even thinner thickness without adding any level of flame resistance.Although PC and PA are cheaper than PPS and have better mechanical strength(especially impact strength),the cost of halogen-free flame retardant formulations for PC and PA composites is higher than PPS. It will rise dramatically,in many cases even higher than PPS materials with the same mechanical strength.
(2) Ultra-high liquidity
In the application field of notebook case, this advantage is more obvious than PC.High addition will not only seriously affect the fluidity of the material and cause processing difficulties,but also cause surface floating fiber,serious warping,poor mechanical properties and other problems.For semi-crystalline PPS,their very high fluidity allows the fiberglass filling to easily exceed 50%. At the same time,in the process of melting blending and extrusion at high temperature,the viscosity of PPS is lower than that of PC,which can make the glass fiber experience lower shear and extrusion levels,resulting in a longer holding length of the final injection product, thus further increasing the modulus.
(3) Ultra-low water absorption
This advantage is mainly for PA.In terms of fluidity,high filling PA and PPS are comparable.In terms of mechanical properties,PA composites with the same filling amount are more dominant.The results show that the defect rate of PPS products is much lower than that of PA products under the same conditions.
(4)Unique metal texture and higher surface hardness
Through a combination of special molds and reasonable mold temperatures,PPS injection molding parts will also make a sound similar to the impact of metal under the touch of human hands, and the surface will be smooth like a mirror, with a metallic luster.
●PEEK has the following outstanding features:
(1) Extremely high heat resistance.
It can be used for a long time at 250°C,the instant temperature can reach 300°C, and it will hardly decompose in a short time at 400°C.
(2) Excellent mechanical properties and dimensional stability.
PEEK can maintain high strength at high temperatures.The bending strength at 200°C can still reach 24MPa,and the bending strength and compressive strength at 250°C can reach 12-13MPa.It is particularly suitable for manufacturing continuous products at high temperatures.Working component.PEEK has high rigidity, good dimensional stability and low coefficient of linear expansion,very close to metal aluminum.In addition, PEEK has good creep resistance and can withstand a great deal of stress during use without significant extension of time.
(3) Excellent chemical resistance.
PEEK resists most chemicals well even at high temperatures and has similar corrosion resistance to nickel steel.Normally,the only thing that can dissolve PEEK is concentrated sulfuric acid.
(4) Good hydrolysis resistance.
Resistance to chemical damage from water or high pressure steam.PEEK components can operate continuously in water environments under high temperature and pressure conditions,but still maintain good mechanical properties.If soaked in 100°C water for 200 days,the strength remains almost constant.
(5) Good flame retardant performance.It can achieve UL 94 V-0 rating,is self-extinguishing,and emits less smoke and toxic gases under flame conditions.
(6) Good electrical performance.PEEK maintains electrical performance over a wide range of frequencies and temperatures.
(7) strong radiation resistance.
PEEK has a very stable chemical structure,and PEEK components work well under high doses of ionizing radiation.
(8) Good toughness.
Fatigue resistance to alternating stress is the best of all plastics,comparable to alloys.
(9) Excellent friction and wear resistance.
Maintain high wear resistance and low friction coefficient at 250°C.
(10) Good processing performance.
Easy extrusion and injection molding,molding efficiency is high.
